Clipston Superfast Broadband - How to access it - March 2018

Thanks to the work of Faye and the broadband committee, Clipston now has lots of choice regarding superfast broadband.  The installation of Openreach Superfast Broadband is now complete, giving villagers the option of up to 150 service providers with speeds between 30-50 Mbps.  Meanwhile Gigaclear have been laying ultrafast fibre cables and their service goes live in March, offering speeds of between 50-1000 Mbps.

 BT/Openreach Superfast Broadband

If you wish to use the Openreach option (offering speeds of 30-50Mbps) you will need to contact your service provider and ask to switch or upgrade to a fibre broadband product. This will typically result in a new 12-24 month contract. If you intend to remain with your current service provider this can be done at any time, but if you intend to switch provider you may wish to wait until your contract renewal date to avoid an early termination fee on the old broadband contract.

There is a lot of choice in the superfast fibre broadband marketplace with over 150 service providers now using the Openreach network. Many of these service providers offer lower-priced packages to attract new customers and the comparison sites e.g. comparethemarket.com are a really useful resource when researching the options available.

Gigaclear

If you wish to use Gigaclear’s service (offering packages from 50-1000Mbps) you will need to contact Craig McFadyen, the Gigaclear rep for Clipston on 07827 227643.  Your house will need to be connected to the village network, which means laying a cable from the road into your premises.  An installation fee is charged, although for a limited period for early takers, Gigaclear are offering free installation (subject to a quick site survey by Craig - please contact him for details).  Packages start at £41.30 a month (for 50Mbps) up to £76.60 a month (1000 Mbps).  You can keep your existing landline for £8.50 a month.

Superfast Broadband Update - Feb. 2018

Earlier this year we learnt that the windfarm grant was not going to be available and that we would need to crowdfund to pay for the Openreach installation of superfast fibre.

The campaign was a success and within 2 weeks the full £5,750 was raised with contributions from the school and more than 70 households and businesses in the village.

A huge thank you to each and every one who contributed.

Clipston is now connected to the largest superfast network in the country and will benefit from the ongoing investment and development of the largest provider, Openreach. Residents will shortly have low cost (non-invasive and zero installation cost) options to connect to superfast broadband with a choice of over 150 Internet Service Providers and the school are able to connect via a specialist provider offering the necessary firewall protections.

Superfast Broadband - how to access (After the 12th Feb. 2018)
Following our successful crowdfunding appeal, the final steps to commission the new Openreach installation are now taking place and the network is expected to ‘go live’ w/c 12th February.

If you wish to benefit from the higher speeds you will need to contact your service provider and ask to switch or upgrade to a fibre broadband product. This will typically result in a new 12-24 month contract. If you intend to remain with your current service provider this can be done at any time (after the 12th Feb) but if you intend to switch provider you may wish to wait until your contract renewal date to avoid an early termination fee on the old broadband contract.

Hopefully before long we’ll all be saying goodbye to buffering and hello to seamless streaming!

With best wishes from your broadband committee
